QR Code Generator

Create a QR code from any text or link in seconds. Pick the size and error correction level, then download the PNG.

What is it

A QR code stores text as a grid of black and white squares that any phone camera can read. You feed it a URL, a Wi-Fi password or any short text, and the encoder packs the bits into a 2D matrix. The error correction level decides how much of the code can be damaged or covered and still scan — higher levels are safer but produce denser codes.

Notes & fun facts

The QR code was invented so car factories could scan parts without line-of-sight delays. Today it quietly handles menus, boarding passes and payments — and yes, the little square in the middle is usually a logo, kept readable thanks to error correction.

Origin & history

The QR code was designed in 1994 by the Japanese company Denso Wave, part of the Toyota Group, under engineer Masahiro Hara, to track automotive parts faster than old barcodes. It became a global standard (ISO/IEC 18004) in 2000, and exploded after smartphones added cameras and reader apps in the late 2000s.
